With the weather finally getting warmer, many RV owners are getting ready for the first trip of the year. Spring is a great time to go on an RV camping trip because it is warmer than the winter, yet not as crowded as the summer. However, there are a few things you will need to prepare for if you want to enjoy your trip, which we discuss below.
Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes can be active in the spring, which can decrease the fun of nature adventures. Spritz travelers with insect repellent before going on a hike or otherwise spending long periods of time in nature. It’s also smart to bring anti-itch cream in case anyone gets bitten.
Rain
In most places, spring is the rainy season. Be sure to have appropriate clothing on hand, including a raincoat and rain boots. You should also bring extra clothing so that you can change into it if you get caught in unexpected weather.
Changing Trails
Trails can be modified or upgraded during the winter – and sometimes this work continues through spring. Always check the most up-to-date map and information on any trail closures. It’d be a shame to drive somewhere for a hike only to find it’s closed.
Cold Weather
While spring is generally warmer than winter, there may still be a few cold days, especially earlier in the year. Make sure that you pack some warmer clothes just in case the weather unexpectedly gets chilly.
